Alexandros Washburn is New York City’s former Chief Urban Designer. He is a global expert on cities, the author of The Nature of Urban Design and leads in the Conde Nast/BBC production: Sustainable Cities: The Future of Travel.
As principal of DRAW Global LLC Alex consults globally with leaders and citizens to improve livability, sustainability, and resilience. Locally, Alex builds projects that bring us closer to an urban ideal.
From Hudson Yards to the High Line, his accomplishments as Chief Urban Designer helped usher in a new era of urban design in New York City. He is the winner of the New York City Public Architect Award and National AIA Honor Awards in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design. He has also taught at NYU, Princeton, and was Industry Professor of Design at the Stevens Institute of Technology.
